Italian Sausage Sandwiches

10 | italian sausages |
2 large | bell peppers, cut in strips |
1/2 large | onion, sliced, cut in half, rings divided |
1 small | jar prego chunky spaghetti sauce |
1 tsp | dried basil, crushed |
1/4 tsp | oregano leaves, crushed |
1/2 tsp | salt, or to taste |
10 | hot dog buns, buttered and toasted under broiler |
1 cup | shredded mozzarella cheese |

in a deep skillet. brown sausages and cook until done, drain. reserve 2 |
tbsp. drippings in pan. saute peppers and onions until tender-crisp. |
drain well. return sausages to pan. add remaining ingredients except |
cheese and onion, pepper saute. bring to a boil, stir, simmer 30 minutes. |
stir occasionally. |

place a sausage in a toasted bun, top with some sauce, top with some onion |
and peppers and top with some mozzarella cheese. stick back under the |
broiler until cheese melts. |
