Pear Pie (2) Collection
aunt hetty's pear pie
vera's pear pie
jim mair said this about that:
> i just love pears and i was wondering does anyone have a recipe for a
> pear pie?
as requested. warning for the humor-impaired: the first recipe comes
from a "celebrity" cookbook featuring the citizens of greater tuna
(texas), and the sidewise cracks about maids and minorities should be read
as satirical. (if you've seen _greater tuna_ you'll know this already,
and if you haven't you should go see the play at once.) filter them out,
and you'll still get a good pie.
mmmmm----- recipe via meal-master (tm) v8.05
title: vera's pear pie
categories: pies
yield: 8 servings
1/4 cup  milk
1 cup  sugar, brown
6   pears
2   pie crust
1/4 cup  almonds, sliced
1/2 cup  butter
  cloves, ground
8 oz.  sour cream
1 cup  flour
1   maid
1   tv set
2   shoes, comfortable
have your maid core and slice the pears. make sure the knife she uses
is not too sharp in case she decides to turn on you. one can never be
too careful with minorities.
have your maid melt the butter in a medium size pot and add the
pears. add nutmeg, cloves and cinnamon to taste. that's your taste,
not the maid's. watch your favorite soap opera while maid simmers the
pears. it may be helpful to look up the spanish word for simmer.
during commercials have your maid pour the simmered pears into a
large pie crust. have her cover the mixture with sliced almonds and
over the entire mixture put sour cream. use the other pie crust as a
top crust. have maid make small cuts in the top crust just like betty
crocker would do. pour milk over top crust to keep it moist and have
maid place it in a pre-heated 400 f. oven for 10 minutes.
go back to watch soap operas while the maid cleans up the messy
kitchen. come back during the commercial and turn down the oven
temperature to 350 f. have maid sit in front of oven window and watch
pie cook for 25 to 30 minutes. top crust will be light brown when the
pie is cooked. have maid remove the pie to cool while you count the
silver. drive maid home, or have her walk if the weather permits,
then throw some flour around the kitchen so those pie crusts will
appear to be homemade.
